Tasmannia Lanceolata Extract

Tasmannia lanceolata (Tasmanian Native Pepper) is a perennial shrub native to Tasmania. Large natural stands are found in the high, cool, moist areas of the State. These areas provide a reliable and sustainable source of leaf material for extraction.

The leaves are extracted to produce a dark green viscous product. The extract possesses an aroma reminiscent of the Australian bush, dry paperbark and herbs. As a food flavour it produces a fresh, spicy lingering heat on the palate.

The leaves of Tasmannia lanceolata have historically been used in food preparation as a substitute for pepper. The extract, however, allows the opportunity to increase its application in the food and beverage industry as a flavouring, whilst still capitalising on its ‘bush-tucker’ origin. It has a wide range of potential uses; including cheeses, smallgoods, spicy sauce products and olive oils.

Tasmannia lanceolata extract is available throughout the year.
